BriteSmile To Go Whitening Pen

Print

Touche Eclat for teeth, the BriteSmile To Go Whitening Pen introduces a fresh, portable and fuss-free treatment to keep teeth looking healthy and pearly white. The pen doesn't replace traditional teeth whitening procedures, it simply gets rid of staining from tea, coffee and wine. The pen doesn't cause sensitivity and is very easy to apply.

Simply remove the cap, click until a small droplet of the minty gel is visible. Do this in the morning and leave on for 30 minutes before eating. Do not rinse. In the evening brush your teeth like normal, apply the gel and then go to sleep. The pen contains enough to do the top and bottom teeth for fifteen days straight. The effect should last around around 2 months, depending on lifestyle, i.e. how much you smoke or drink staining liquids. It can even last up to a year in some cases. The pen is great for those who don't want to mess around with teeth whitening trays. The only drawback is, that because of the bleaching agents in the whitening gel, the pen has to be prescribed by a dentist. But this does allow you to be monitored or ask any questions regarding the pen or application.

Thom Browne Black Fleece Tester

Print

A tester for the new fragrance from Brooks Brothers' Black Fleece label came with a ribbon bracelet in Thom Browne's signature stripe. A nice way to get a taster of the fragrance and also a reminder of Thom Browne's style. He uses this stripe on all his collections; his mainline at Harvey Nichols & Harrods, Moncler Gamme Bleu at Dover Street Market, Harrods, Moncler Boutique and also for the Black Fleece collection for Brooks Brothers. It's pure preppy Americana and just leaves you wanting more.

Men's Day - Grooming - Komakino & Orschel-Read

Print

Men's Day wasn't solely about the clothes. This season Clinique Skin Supplies for Men were proud to sponsor make up artist Rachel Wood and her team for the Komakino and Orschel-Read shows at Vauxhall Fashion Scout. Rachel has given us her take on the inspiration behind the look and how she created it using Skin Supplies for Men and Clinique products.

KOMAKINO

Komakino’s collection was a mix of the protective, restless youthful qualities of street wear as well as something darker and more alien.

Makeup artist Rachel Wood says “Komakino is a really dark, egdy kind of brand so they wanted the boys to look street and real, not too groomed. To achieve this look I mixed the Skin Supplies for Men Non-Streak Bronzer with the M Lotion to make it really shear, and then buffed it into the skin with a foundation brush. We kept the skin powder free to really create that un-groomed look, just fresh looking skin. I was inspired by boys partying in Hoxton, that glowing, clean skin which isn’t totally perfect. This is a really big trend at most shows at the moment, even with the women’s shows, the trend for makeup has been un-groomed and a bit dishevelled.

This look really was low maintenance, to cover any dark areas we used the Airbrush Concealer in both the inner and outer corners of the eyes to brighten without making the models look overly made up at all. Just as they went out onto the catwalk we added a slick of Superbalm Lip Treatment to the top and bottom lips to give a just licked-lip look.”

ORSCHEL – READ

Orschel-Read’s collection this season was inspired by a myriad of things, the subtle beauty of female birds, early designs of William Morris and the ceiling murals of Stockholm’s Storkyrkan Cathedral.

Makeup artist Rachel Wood says “For the Orschel-Read show we created a totally different look using a lot of the same products. I took my inspiration for this look from Robert Pattinson in Twilight, and in particular, his eyebrows. Brows have been a huge look this season so using the Clinique Instant Lift for Brows we created a straight line under the brows then used the Clinique Colour Surge Stay Matte Shadows in Chocolate Chip and Midnight, depending on their colouring, and brushed the shadow up into the brow to create a deep set, strong brow line.

Using the Skin Supplies for Men Non Streak Bronzer and Airbrush Concealer we gave the skin a clean look without adding too much colour to the skin, this is why I love the Non Streak Bronzer, it adds a touch of tint without being shiny or looking made up.

Continuing to draw on Robert Pattinson’s look from Twilight, we used the Almost Bronzer to create contouring under the cheekbones using both colours in the Bronzer duo for light and shade.

We powdered down the middle of the face with Clinique Almost Powder Makeup to give a polished finish to this look so there was no shine on the face at all and finished with a blotted slick of Superbalm Lip Treatment.

This was a much more polished put together look, a really dramatic, strong, chiselled look, like a soldier."

Brazilian or Hollywood? Sir

Print

According to a recent report from West London waxing boutique STRIP, there has been a significant increase in male waxing over the past year. STRIP's latest statistics for 2009 show a large increase in all treatments but particularly the male Brazilian and Hollywood which increased by a massive 88%. STRIP Director Danielle Featherstone-Price says “We've had a 47% increase in male wa xing. The popularity of male intimate waxing is on the increase too and becoming part of a regular grooming treatment for many men. We find that it is often their partners who are booking their other half in for treatments, possibly due to 'the Ronaldo effect'.  Customers are seeing these high profile ad. campaigns plus with the popularity of boy bands, they are aspiring to the trend for a buffed, hair-free physique."

Here are the stats. Full Back - 40% increase, Stomach - 55% increase, Chest - 64% increase and Brazilian and Hollywood waxes - 88% increase. As with women the Hollywood wax removes all pubic hair, Brazilian however leaves a strip (as wide or thin as you like) at the front.

There seems to be a big trend in male waxing, or manscaping as it has been labelled, recently. It used to be restricted to porn stars, gay guys and body builders but like all 'metrosexual' trends it has spread and is spreading. TheChicGeek's word on this is 'Tidy'. Tidy what you have and go with what you've got. If you are hairy then it will be a neverending task to keep it all under control and also hair in the right places on a man can be attractive, not to mention masculine. I understand that a Hollywood is cleaner, smells fresher - and can even make your manhood look larger! - but there is something strangely emasculating about not having any hair down there.
