I first saw the Vintage at Goodwood festival advertised late last year, and though it sounded a great idea fusing the different 20th century decades' fashion and music together, I thought at the time this will be a hard one to pull off. Reading the latest details from the festival organisers, it sounds really good.
Lord March and designers Wayne and Geraldine Hemingway are pulling out all the stops and the 'High Street' fashion section sounds like a highlight.
As festival goers enter the Vintage at Goodwood site through an area of woodland, they will be met with a Universal Studio style film set of a High Street which will form a shopping hub for festival go-ers over the course of the three day event. The sustainable high street will be home to interactive areas, talks, and an incredible range of shopping experiences Bespoke to the Vintage experience.
The Vintage High Street will be a place to shop and promenade; people watch and enjoy the surreal experience of authentic cafes in the middle of the South Downs National Park. Rather than traditional festival fayre, restaurants will serve quality food inspired by the decade, and as opposed to a limited selection of mediocre drinks a broad variety will be stocked including Reserve Brands such as Tanqueray, Ketel One and Johnnie Walker.
The High Street will showcase a number of brands including: a Fortnum and Mason tea shop, a Body Shop time capsule area, a John Lewis make and mend area, Doc Martens store, a Cath Kidston store, a Kenwood kitchen demo area with celebrity chefs, fashion pavilion and an Oxfam store with original facade.
Nestled in the South Downs, overlooking the Sussex coast, Vintage at Goodwood will offer “posh” woodland camping unlike any other festival both in setting and style. Distinguishing Vintage from other festivals will be the unprecedented levels of luxury accommodation and facilities available. Be it under beautiful bricks and mortar in the Goodwood Hotel, specially-constructed glamorous camping in the secluded glades, or bedding down in vintage caravans, customized Vintage pod pads, or one’s own tent, all attending will have the opportunity to dress up.
