Accessory Summer 2010 - The Parasol
As we become more conscious of the damage the Sun has on our skin and the trend in being our natural colour thanks to all the new skin brightening treatments, the latest fashion accessory is one that shields us from the Sun's rays. Inspired by a 1908 picture of men in their club uniforms at Henley Royal Regatta carrying chinese paper parasols - see link to Getty images below - I think the parasol is the accessory of the Summer. It has an Edwardian elegance.
This could be a hard one to carry off as you don't want to go frou-frou a la Mary Poppins, so stick to neutrals like the ones right or strong masculine colours like navy or black. There is an element of camp but the chicest looks as always those that dangerously tread that fine line. Prada, as always, are a head of the game, look at their new men's advertising below, the parasol features prominently in their Shanghai surprise.
