It’s that in-betweeny time of year, summer in fashion terms is over yet the sun is still shinning. Rails of grey and black clothes are hitting the stores as the new winter season is delivered and over in Milan and Paris, they’ve just shown our options for summer 2010.

This is where it gets complicated. Here’s the science bit.

Most importantly, if you are going on holiday and are yet to buy some summer clothes then get out there quick. Before you know it your only options will be grey tweed and black cashmere.

If you’ve been watching something or you liked a particular collection then this is the time to swoop. Best collections this season were from Burberry Prorsum, Bottega Veneta and Raf Simons.

Buy for next summer, keys trends coming off the catwalks last week in Milan and Paris were sheer shirts and jackets and quite a lot of black and brown.

Some trends will move into autumn, look out for classic suede desert boots or shoes, silk shirts and light trenches, these will all see you through till October.

TheChicGeek's Sale Shopping Guidelines

Don’t be seduced by the label. Designers still make mistakes you know.

Make sure it fits really well. You really want it, we understand that, but if it doesn’t fit, it doesn’t look good. Walk away.

It might be on the sale rack for a reason. Think before you buy.

Buy all your classics, spend the same money that you would pre-sale but buy better quality - white shirts, blue jeans, grey v-necks, black shoes and leather belts.

Stock up on quality staples. Save money by buying your favourite underwear, socks, T-shirts, knitwear, night clothes  and accessories at discounted prices.

Here are a couple of our favourites in this year's summer sale:

The sizing on this comes up large but great cardigan from one of the best designer collaborations of the year.

Martin Margiela Grandad Shirt - Was £185 Now £111

Classic, crisp white collarless shirt. Will look fantastic this winter with a pair of black mohair trousers.
