When it comes to putting things on our skin in the form of lotions and creams we are usually very trusting of the manufacturers. We don't normally check the ingredients, which you'd probably need a science degree to understand, believing what we are told hoping for the results they promise. When it comes to putting things in our mouths we are completely different, questioning and double-checking everything.

Gilgamesh in Camden has just launched a new 'Eat Yourself Beautiful' menu featuring lots of collagen. The pan-asian menu is inspired by the Japanese 'Beauty Restaurant'. The raw collagen substance is made of crushed fish bones, which is then made into a powder called amino collagen. Collagen as an additive is tasteless and clear and is used in everything from noodles to nabe.

Wheatgrass and avacado shot - £6

Collagen inside out dumpling - £6

Clear soup of chicken, collagen jelly, wild rice and ginger - £12

Collagen Bento Box of Chargrilled Salmon, Black Sushi Rice, Mixed Leaves, Tomato & Onion Dressing - £15

Beauty bucket of poached chicken, black rice and sesame seeds - £16

Goji berry sorbet, sugarless milk ice - £8

TheChicGeek Comment - While there isn't any scientific backing to this menu it all looks pretty healthy. In order to have great skin and look good you need to have a healthy, balanced diet and drink lots of water. You can't expect to look good if you don't put goodness in. And if the Japanese are doing it then it's usually good, they have one of the healthiest diets in the world.
