Men's Day wasn't solely about the clothes. This season Clinique Skin Supplies for Men were proud to sponsor make up artist Rachel Wood and her team for the Komakino and Orschel-Read shows at Vauxhall Fashion Scout. Rachel has given us her take on the inspiration behind the look and how she created it using Skin Supplies for Men and Clinique products.

KOMAKINO

Komakino’s collection was a mix of the protective, restless youthful qualities of street wear as well as something darker and more alien.

Makeup artist Rachel Wood says “Komakino is a really dark, egdy kind of brand so they wanted the boys to look street and real, not too groomed. To achieve this look I mixed the Skin Supplies for Men Non-Streak Bronzer with the M Lotion to make it really shear, and then buffed it into the skin with a foundation brush. We kept the skin powder free to really create that un-groomed look, just fresh looking skin. I was inspired by boys partying in Hoxton, that glowing, clean skin which isn’t totally perfect. This is a really big trend at most shows at the moment, even with the women’s shows, the trend for makeup has been un-groomed and a bit dishevelled.

This look really was low maintenance, to cover any dark areas we used the Airbrush Concealer in both the inner and outer corners of the eyes to brighten without making the models look overly made up at all. Just as they went out onto the catwalk we added a slick of Superbalm Lip Treatment to the top and bottom lips to give a just licked-lip look.”

ORSCHEL – READ

Orschel-Read’s collection this season was inspired by a myriad of things, the subtle beauty of female birds, early designs of William Morris and the ceiling murals of Stockholm’s Storkyrkan Cathedral.

Makeup artist Rachel Wood says “For the Orschel-Read show we created a totally different look using a lot of the same products. I took my inspiration for this look from Robert Pattinson in Twilight, and in particular, his eyebrows. Brows have been a huge look this season so using the Clinique Instant Lift for Brows we created a straight line under the brows then used the Clinique Colour Surge Stay Matte Shadows in Chocolate Chip and Midnight, depending on their colouring, and brushed the shadow up into the brow to create a deep set, strong brow line.

Using the Skin Supplies for Men Non Streak Bronzer and Airbrush Concealer we gave the skin a clean look without adding too much colour to the skin, this is why I love the Non Streak Bronzer, it adds a touch of tint without being shiny or looking made up.

Continuing to draw on Robert Pattinson’s look from Twilight, we used the Almost Bronzer to create contouring under the cheekbones using both colours in the Bronzer duo for light and shade.

We powdered down the middle of the face with Clinique Almost Powder Makeup to give a polished finish to this look so there was no shine on the face at all and finished with a blotted slick of Superbalm Lip Treatment.

This was a much more polished put together look, a really dramatic, strong, chiselled look, like a soldier."
