If you are thinking about buying yourself or anybody else a tie this Christmas make sure it is a matt tie. When I say matt, what I mean is non-shiny, so no silk or bright reflective threads. Think Dermot O'Leary on the X-Factor, solid blocks of tactile weaved/knitted wool or cashmere. It takes the neck-tie to a new place of refined understatement rather than look at me jockey silks.
These ties work well with suits in similar fabrics, weaves or tweeds and make the tie something that compliments your attire rather than competing with it.
n.b. Don't buy anything too thick as this will have a negative effect on the knot and we certainly don't like big knots.
