What is your opinion about teaming a slim fit black Timothy Everest black velvet suit with wine trim with a smartish shirt and paul smith burgundy velvet tie. Should we really opt for the trad. white dress shirt?

If this is the groom, can't wait to hear what you are wearing!

This sounds good, just make sure everything is fitted and the whole look is really sharp and tight. Try different collar sizes with the bow-tie to see what you like best. Dress shirts are nice because they have nice detailing but a plain, good quality white shirt would be fine but as I say it's all about the collar size and proportion.

May I suggest some wine or brown coloured patents shoes to finish the look.

On a grooming note keep it quite natural, there's a line between referencing a look and fancy dress, I don't want him looking like Ted from Hi-De-Hi!
