Going, Going, Gone - Baron of Piccadilly

baron of piccadilyOne of the last bastions of Sixties men's wear is shutting down. The Tudor signage of Baron of Piccadilly will soon be no more. This is one of the last old school clothes shops in central London, the type where clothes are displayed and labelled like meat in a butcher's shop. I would have once walked past and mocked it as a tourist trap but now it is going, there is a sense of nostalgia. This is shopping 'Are you being served?' style where everything is away behind counters and you dare not be a serious purchaser. A 'Suits you sir' type of customer service of handwritten labels and the one cash desk. They certainly don't make them like this anymore. Check it out while you can. Everything is going at reasonable prices, even if it is a bit yellowed. They are even selling the shop fixtures and fittings, so if you're in the market for a Sixties mannequin with bad skin, then get down there fast.

baron of piccadilyI bought a beautiful pair of wool Prince of Wales check trousers with box pleats - very Duke of Windsor and an vintage Sunspel vest.
