Happy New Year

2011 looks like it's going to be a great year style wise with some very exciting things to look forward to over the next six months. Here are TheChicGeek's top highlights, roll on 2011!

Mr Porter

Opening for business soon,(said to be mid-Feb.) Mr Porter is the most eagerly anticipated men's retail site yet. The husband of luxury online success story Net-a-Porter, Mr Porter is going all out to impress. Now part of the Richemont stable, this new site has big bucks behind it, they have poached the editor of Esquire to see up editorial content and have bought in brands such as E.Tautz and Margaret Howell. Still a closely guarded secret, Mr Porter will be the online launch of the year and will be the world's first true luxury men's site proudly based in London. Looks set to open in February.

London Fashion Week

Continuing to mix established names with new designers, London Fashion Week's menswear is fast becoming a focal point rather than a token add on. Alfred Dunhill is showing a collection under new direction - Kim Jones left - Bally is also showing a presentation of its collaboration with Central Saint Martins under its new designers Graeme Fidler and Michael Herz - both formerly Aquascutum - plus LFW favourites JW Anderson and James Long and no doubt a hot new name we've yet to hear of. Highlight is going to be Barbie's Ken's appearance at Cassette Playa.

Gucci's 90th Birthday

Gucci hits the big 9-0 in 2011. Most of the details are still under wraps but no doubt there will be great fanfare when they open in the new Gucci Museum in Florence. 90 years of Italian craftmanship and va va vroom sex appeal will be celebrated by what is one of the world's most powerful luxury brands. Expect celebratory products and more glimpses of the Gucci archive which they have been busy buying back the best examples with the help of Christie's.

Brand Beckham

This will be the year that brand David Beckham comes into its own. He has got Stella McCartney's super-stylish husband Alasdhair Willis on board as 'Creative Consultant'. Alasdhair was formerly at Wallpaper* magazine and furniture firm Established & Sons and they have already tweaked the branding on Beckham's fragrances. They are said to be a launching a range of underwear, which considering what he did for Armani's pants, is a clever and very lucrative idea.

Beckham is hopefully moving away from his previously bling image to something more refined. There is no escaping this man's influence so it's great that somebody with taste is advising him. TheChicGeek is expecting good things David.

Most Stylish TV Programme 2010 - This Is England, 86

As well as being one of the grittiest and thought provoking dramas of the year, This is England, 86 was a reminder of the street styles of the mid-eighties. We had the gloss of Mad Men or Any Human Heart, so it was refreshing to get down and dirty with the crew of This Is England. A Baracuta jacket never looked so cool.
