We love things 'of their time' and this vintage Gianni Versace ensemble, soon to go under the hammer at Kerry Taylor Auctions in South London, is pure late 80s; the time of Memphis furniture, Rosenthal china, Beetlejuice, Jack Nicholson as the Joker in Batman and Daryl Hannah's disastrous interior design in Wall Street. This is Gianni Versace in his prime.
The item for sale is a Gianni Versace man's suit Autumn-Winter, 1988-9, labelled, comprising voluminous black wool jacket with abstract print collar, wide lapels, exaggerated shoulders; printed silk shirt printed with black and white chequers, ethnic inspired motifs; a woven purple tie, black trousers with dramatically tapering legs and zips to the ankles, chest 122cm, 48in, waist 82cm, 32in. This ensemble was given to the vendor by Gianni Versace himself. It was used to promote the 1988-89 Pret-a-Porter menswear collection which was shot in Miami.
